Employment Law in the UAE

Employment relationships in the United Arab Emirates are governed by the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980, on Regulating Labour Relations, as amended by Federal Laws No 24 of 1981, No 15 of 1985, No 12 of 1986 and No 8 of 2007 (the Labour Law), as well as regulations issued pursuant to it.

The Labour Law applies to all persons employed in the UAE, that includes UAE nationals, expatriates, as well as personnel employed by Free Zone companies, subject to certain exceptions:
